Most accidents or near accidents in production companies are the result of lack of knowledge or skills or low risk awareness of the workforce.

Responsible Care®  is an initiative of the world wide chemical industry. It is the commitment of the chemical industry to continual improvement of all aspects of health, safety and environment performance (HSE) in a company, leading to less accidents and a safer and cleaner workplace and environment. The Komite Nasional Responsible Care Indonesia  (KN-RCI) promotes Responsible Care in Indonesia.

From 2007 – 2010 VAPRO and Indonesian partners executed the project ‘’Implementing Responsible Care in Vocational Education and Processing Industries in Indonesia’’.

This project is largely financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs  through the Indonesia Facility

Aim of the project was:
- To contribute to Responsible Care and to better HSE-records of processing companies in Indonesia by
- Developing and testing a Health Safety Environment training program for (future) operators in the process industry based on Indonesian and international HSE standards

In this project VAPRO worked together with:
- Komite Nasional Responsible Care Indonesia (KN-RCI)
- Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya
- SMK Negeri 7 Bandung
- SMKN 1 Cerme Gresik
- SMK Analis Kimia Caraka Nusantara Jakarta
- Fakultas Teknik Universitas Tirtayasa – Program Diploma 1 (D1) Cilegon

The project has brought:
1. An HSE curriculum for vocational schools and process companies
2. Based on Indonesian and international HSE standards
3. Modern HSE learning resources in Bahasa Indonesia
4. Safety Labs at four schools
5. Training method and learning materials for practical learning in the company
6. HSE certified teachers and practical trainers
7. 90 3rd and 4th year students from schools and 90 operators from companies trained and HSE certified

The project will be completed with a final conference in July 2010. The HSE program is now available to other schools and companies. (Download Brochure)
